Growth is the only guarantee that tomorrow is going to get better.
You see, most people don’t have a plan for personal growth!
Why?
The majority of us believe that growth is automatic.
The majority of us believe that if we stick something out long enough, we will become more competent.
This is a false and limiting belief.
Here are the facts:
Businesses often give people titles based on their level of experience in their job, for example, they say,
‘Well, you’ve been doing this job for 5 or so years now so we will promote you and have you leading others.
Go forth and lead.’
What’s the problem with this?
Experience does not = competency
I know plenty of people who have been in a job for 10+ years and… they are not getting any better!
In fact, their idea of progress is moving backwards slowly.
Here’s the take home point:
The only way that you will grow in your career, job and life, is through
committing to grow yourself daily.
Yes the word daily is underlined on purpose. It won’t work if you spend 12 hours straight every 3 months
learning and growing. Consistency is key.
Let’s use the gym as an example:
Consistent action and reps in the gym will give you the results you desire.
Consistency trumps intensity every time and it is the same with your growth and development.
If you want to move forward, you have to grow and if you want to grow, you have to be intentional on a daily
basis.
Here are some questions you can ask yourself to help get you started on taking daily action to grow.
1. What are you doing now to grow yourself?
2. If you’re not, what’s getting in the way?
3. What is the vision you hold for your career and what are you prepared to do to get there?
